My name is Tamara. I want to ask you to take a moment to enter my world..... Imagine you just stepped into my farmhouse kitchen. Sunlight filters through the windows giving everything a soft, warm glow. Apothecary jars filled with oils and herbs line the window seals. Against one long wall are thick, old shelves lined with mason jars filled to the brim with flowers, herbs, and teas. In the middle of the kitchen sets a long wooden table overflowing with salves, elixirs, vinegars and infused oils crafted to nurture and heal. The scents of lavender and rosemary fill the air. There are large baskets on the counter tops with filled with fruits and vegetables. Organic eggs, fresh from our chickens are setting out, ready to be made into an Italian Fritta for dinner.... everything is natural, simple, organic and good for you. Welcome to Farmacology Organics.....
I am a mother of 5 and grandmother to 12. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains where herbalism and farm living were a way of life. My great grandmothers and the ones before them were the "Granny Wives" of the mountains. My ancestors delivered babies, applied poultices, dug herbal roots, made spring tonics and cooked nourishing foods for their families. I had mustard plasters on my chest for colds; moonshine, honey and herb syrups for coughing; and Dandelion salads for spring cleanse. Herbalism was my traditional medicine.
In 1989 one of my children became critically ill. For 3 years we watched her get worse. She was not responding to the medicines prescribed by her doctors. I went back to my roots and begin a more official study of herbs. Using deep nutrition and medicinal herbs, our daughter was soon well and healthy. This led me down a life long path of studying herbal and nutritional healing. My husband Joe joined me and soon our home was filled with herbs and nourishing foods. Before long we were crafting herbal products for friends and family.
I never planned on blogging. Recently ( just this year), I made a little Facebook page to talk about herbs and wholistic living. The page was really made for our friends, families living far away and local customers, who were buying our herbal products. Suddenly in a matter of 6 days we went from 84 likes to over 50,000. We now have over 70,000 followers on Facebook. This blog is in answer to my readers request for more information about herbs, health and wellness.... ~
