Fennel Seed Tea For Infants ~
Fennel is a gentle antigas, antispasmodic; relieves colic, gas and bloating
in both humans and their animal companions. It is also good for chronic
indigestion, increases appetite in finicky animals, reduces bad breath,
belching, and acts as an antibacterial in the mouth. To use you can add a small amount of
fennel directly to food, or add a small amount of fennel seed tea to drinking
water.
Did you know that in In a 2011 research review published in the journal Pediatrics that scientists analyzed 15 clinical trials on the use of complementary and alternative medicines in treatment of colic? The review's authors found "some encouraging results" for fennel.
Clinical trials on the use of fennel for colic include a 2003 study published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine. For the study, 125 infants (ages 2 to 12 weeks) were given either a fennel seed oil or a placebo. Study results showed that use of fennel eliminated colic in 65 percent of infants in the treatment group (compared to 23.7 percent of infants in the placebo group).
To make Fennel Tea ~ Use 1 tsp of Fennel to 1 cup of hot water. Let steep for 10 minuntes and strain. This tea works for adults and infants.
Fennel Tea is a traditional remedy for colic. You may give a tea made from fennel seed ~ You may give the fennel tea directly to your baby (1 tsp. before and after feedings) after it cools. Or a breastfeeding mother can drink it (1 cup three to six times per day). Fennel helps relax the gastrointestinal tract and get rid of gas.

HERBAL ALLIES ~ Parsley for Acne
Parsely is a great anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory herb. When my children were teens and suffering with acne I made a Parsley Facial Toner for them. It worked like magic. Here is my recipe.
Chop up 1/2 cup of fresh parsley. Put in a medium bowl. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the parsley. Let set until cool. Strain and add 1/4 cup of Witch Hazel to the parsley water. Put in bottle and store in fridge. To use put on a cotton ball and dap on face 2 to 3 times a day

Did you know the lowely Dandelion is a powerhouse of nutriton? According to the USDA Bulletin #8, "Composition of Foods" (Haytowitz and Matthews 1984), dandelions rank in the top 4 green vegetables in overall nutritional value. Minnich, in "Gardening for Better Nutrition" ranks them, out of all vegetables, including grains, seeds and greens, as tied for 9th best. According to these data, dandelions are nature's richest green vegetable source of beta-carotene, from which Vitamin A is created, and the third richest source of Vitamin A of all foods, after cod-liver oil and beef liver! They also are particularly rich in fiber, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and the B vitamins, thiamine and riboflavin, and are a good source of protein. You can use the flower & leaf portion in salads, saute in olivie oil or make a dandelion infused vinegar. In addition to being a nutritional powerhouse dandelions are a very useful herb. Dandelion Greens & Onions
Ingredients:
- 1 pound dandelion greens
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 whole small dried hot chile pepper, seeds removed, crushed
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- salt and pepper
- Parmesan cheese
Preparation:
Discard dandelion green roots; wash greens well in salted water. Cut leaves into 2-inch pieces. Cook greens uncovered in small amount of salted water until tender, about 10 minutes. Sauté onion, garlic, and chile pepper in oil. Drain greens; add to onion garlic mixture. Taste dandelion greens and season with salt and pepper. Serve dandelion greens with grated Parmesan cheese.
